JOB DESCRIPTION: Coordinates and oversees the financial management of National Institute of Health or industry sponsored trials. Reviews study protocols for financial and resource feasibility. Develops budget and writes budget justification. Assists in resolving problems and issues resulting from routing proposals through University. Reviews contracts and indemnification agreements through the Office of Sponsored Programs. Adheres to Cost Accounting Standards and justifies exceptions for approval. Revises budgets, negotiates, prepares best and final offer, and obtains final University approval. Arranges for study set-up (space, staffing phones, computers, printers, copiers, permits). Prepares continuation applications and study extensions. Prepares technical progress reports and monitors expenditures and staffing levels. Assures compliance with expenditures for small/disadvantaged business sub-contracts. Reviews OGCA financial reports for accuracy prior to submission to funding agency. Resolves billing problems and issues with Accounts Payable, P-card vendors, Emory Clinic and Hospital. Approves purchase orders and maintenance agreements for equipment. Monitors budget and accomplishes study goals within budget. Analyzes and presents financial status and statistical data. Communicates with sponsor/contract officer for budget queries and required deliveries. Assists with preparation of University fiscal year budgets. Attends departmental, school research administration, and Clinical Trials Office meetings. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, nursing or a scientific field from an accredited college or university. Four years of experience in accounting, business or research administration, or a health related field, which includes two years of direct clinical research experience. Knowledge of medical terminology. |

•Accountable for financial management of approximately 50 pediatric Hem/Onc/BMT clinical research studies at three clinical sites (Egleston, Scottish Rite, and Hughes Spalding), representing over $1.5 million in clinical research funding (federal, industry, and internal).
•Oversees and managers numerous subcontracts between Emory and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and serves as a key liaison between the two organizations. Some studies are awarded to CHOA, with subcontract to Emory. Others are awarded to Emory, with subcontract to CHOA.
•Must be able to navigate and master both Emory and Children’s financial/accounting systems (including Emory SiteMinder entry of trials) and understand research administration processes at both organizations. Includes developing excellent working relationships with key research and finance personnel at both Emory and CHOA.
•This position reports directly to the Emory pediatric hematology/oncology division Sr. Clinical Business Manager.
•This position will provide financial management of clinical trial research projects, to approximately 30 Hem/Onc/BMT division clinical research faculty employed by ECC. |
