ELECTRICIAN

DESCRIPTION:  Performs multiple aspects of electrical work for either new construction or remodeling of facilities or the maintenance of all client facilities including the main campus and satellite locations.  For new constructions or remodeling, plans and estimate jobs; obtains materials; installs electrical systems and devices and performs related activities.  For maintenance, performs safety and preventative maintenance inspections; plans and estimates jobs; obtains materials; installs and repairs electrical systems and devices.  Also for maintenance, maintains and test emergency, fire detection, electrical equipment and systems and responds to emergency electrical calls.  Ensure all electrical work meets National Electrical Code (NEC) and health and safety codes. 

EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS:  Coursework completed as part of an accredited apprenticeship program.  Technical or vocational degree and/or coursework in relevant electrical skills.  In addition to the years it takes to become a journeyman electrician, five to seven years of progressive experience in electrical system and device installation, troubleshooting, testing and repairs is minimally required.  At least one (1) year experience in Hospital Maintenance preferred.  Strong knowledge of the Joint Commission Standards.  Experience with installation and troubleshooting of motor controls, patient call system and cable TV.  Experience with generator testing and repairs.  Valid drivers license required. 

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  The work as it is typically performed consists of considerable strenuous physical exertion including considerable walking, lifting, pulling, climbing and working in confined spaces.  The typical work environment involves potentially high risk with exposure to potentially dangerous situations that require adherence to prescribed safety policies, procedures and precautions.  Examples include:

·               Hazards from exposure to live electrical wires

·               Exposure to fairly wide range of temperatures and weather conditions when working outside.

·               Exposure to biohazards common to a hospital environment.

·               Exposure to noise and vibrations due to power tools and heavy equipment such as generators, compressors, etc.

Exposure to hazards typical of an electrical maintenance environment including the need to handle hazardous substances with proper use of safety equipment and precaution.
