Qualifications: Journalism or related degree
3 years as writer in:broadcast, wire service, radio, daily newspaper or other relevant professional writing experience
or 1 year as writer for CNN, CNNI or HLN.
*APs at CNN networks considered if they have written regularly for air or with cnn.com for 1 year
Strong interest in and understanding of national and international affairs
Producing and copy editing experience helpful
AvStar and INews proficiency helpful
Duties: Writers for Morning Express with Robin Meade at HLN are responsible for writing anchor scripts, package tosses and teases in Express style: clear, concise and conversational copy that speaks directly to the viewers. Morning Express is a high-profile, high-energy show covering national and international news of the day under tight deadlines. Morning Express writers also search for and select affiliate video and other graphic elements for stories or segments they are working on, assist in producing segments or shows including weather coverage, music segments and digital extensions (including but not limited to: web page, newsletter, podcast, viewer interaction, and vetting user-generated content). Because writers may also be called on to play an editorial role in the control room, prior control room experience is a plus. Writers at HLN have the opportunity to advance to Copy Editor and Producer positions. HLN is a 24x7 broadcast operation and candidates must be willing to work overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts when news warrants or to meet network needs.
