Qualifications: Journalism or related degree
3 years as writer in: broadcast, wire service, radio, daily newspaper or other relevant professional writing experience
or 1 year as writer for CNN, CNNI or HLN.
*APs at CNN networks considered if they have written regularly for air or with cnn.com for 1 year
Strong interest in and understanding of national and international affairs
Producing and copy editing experience helpful
AvStar and INews proficiency helpful
Background in Court Room environment, and/or knowledge of overall legal proceedings a plus.
Duties: Write scripts accurately covering trials and the news of the day in a way that is journalistically sound, conversational and showcases the wow, now, relevance and impact of the story. Write teases that support and advance the network's "tease" objectives and goals. Ensure that video and graphic elements best illustrate the news by being accurate, timely, and in context. Ensure that production cues and on-screen fonts are accurate, formatted properly, spell checked and completed prior to air, and that banners are active, engaging and informative. Communicate all pertinent information to members of the team who are affected by a given situation. Write copy for network online needs and digital extensions (blogs, newsletters, web page, etc.). Take on production duties as needed for segments or shows. Attend and actively and positively participate in daily show meetings, weekly editorial meetings, network meetings.
