Overview:
The Sr. EHS Engineer position is located in Covington, Georgia at Bard Medical Division.

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:
Responsible for Coordinating and maintaining the overall plant Process Safety Management (PSM) program and ensuring overall engineering system integrity for the regional ethylene oxide sterilization plants while providing technical support as needed to other sites located in Georgia. Additional responsibilities include creating and executing EHS CIPs, development of EHS management systems and information technology tools, driving the site employee behavioral based safety program, incident investigation program, emergency response program, and site security. The Sr. EHS engineer also is responsible for preparing and submitting all necessary environmental regulatory reports for all Georgia locations including but not limited to: Title V, Form R, RMP, and Tier II.

Essential Job Functions:

 


Develops, updates, and implements plant PSM procedures. Maintains and coordinates all process safety related information for the plant.   


 


Identifies, determines, and implements engineering technical practices, standards, and process industry practices for all plant processes. 


 


Conducts process safety hazard analysis (HAZOP) and layer of protection analysis (LOPA) for all current sterilization processes and any future process changes. Additionally conducts hazard reviews for all process controls (CHAZOP), projects (PHSER), and any future process changes.  


 


Drives the employee behavioral safety program and assists in the investigations of all employee safety and process safety incidents. Leads the site safety committee and contractor safety program. Conducts health and safety training on a wide range of topics as needed. Accountable to ensure the plant's incident rate and lost case work day rate meet established corporate and business goals.


 


Updates and maintains the sites emergency response plan and leads all training and rehearsals for all supporting emergency response teams (spill, fire, first aid..). Conducts annual evacuation drills.  


 


Leads all FMEAs and reviews and submits all RMPs and sterilization process related regulatory reports to include Title V air permitting, Form R, and Tier II reporting. Analyzes and develops worst case and alternative release scenarios; facilitates all PHA reviews.


 


Keeps up to date on all current and pending environmental, health and safety legislation and regulations. Identifies all applicable regulations (Corporate EHS, Federal, State, and Local) and ensures the plant has procedures and programs in place to adhere to all  regulatory requirements. Responsible for coordinating and conducting internal EHS audits, site security threat assessments, and updating all security and EHS procedures.


 


Accountable for the administration of the Plant's Health and Safety budget.




Basic Qualifications:
• Must have experience with PHAs, HAZOPs, and LOPAs.
• Experienced with Control Systems and PLCs
• Knowledge of OSHA and EPA Regulations.
• CSP Certification Preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions in Basic English and write short correspondence / memos. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, internal customers and other employees within the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as geometry, trigonometry, exponents, etc. Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as facility design, process line location and layout.


REASONING ABILITY:
Position requires good logic and reasoning ability. Ability to define problems and find logical solutions. Ability to interpret specifications and technical instructions. In summary, position requires a high degree of logical analyzing. Errors in the facility or process design bring heavy liability and financial burden to the Company. Errors in safety equipment could bring loss of life. Position interfaces heavily with outside

Education and/or Experience:

 



  • B.S. in engineering required, chemical engineering preferred, 5-10 years overall experience.


3-5 years experience in a process safety engineering role at a PSM regulated facility a MUST

Must be willing and able to work in a variety of environments including: outdoors, at elevated heights, in non-climate controlled production areas and areas with potentially hazardous chemicals.
