POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for administering the hazardous materials shipping procedures for the corporation, providing consultative support for Clorox foreign subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations governing the movement of hazardous materials, and providing employee hazmat training.  Hazardous materials regulations are promulgated by the Department of Transportation (DOT), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Maritime Organization (IMDG Code).

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

[1]  Monitor, analyze and recommed Clorox position on regulatory proposals from the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, DOT, ICAO and IMDG Code.

[2]  Develop training materials, administer training records and train personnel involved in shipping hazardous materials at Clorox facilities, co-packers and DC's.

[3]  Serve as an expert and service provider to Clorox on hazardous materials.

[4]  Participate in compliance investigations and advise Legal and PSO on the resolution of alleged hazardous materials violations.

[5]  Review raw materials, formulations and finished goods and provide proper shipping names for the respective modes.

[6]  Provide direction to R & D regarding shipping implications of product development and package sizes.

[7]  Collaborate with other Clorox regulatory groups and share duties as appropriate.

- Providing assistance to service providers (brokers & forwarders) with import/export activities as needed.
- Maintaining database with HS Code, ECCN & export restrictions for newly developed products.


OTHER SCOPE FACTORS:
 This position functions under the following parameters:
-  Recommends policies and procedures that affect the corporation and affiliates.
-  Maintains extensive contact (both inside and outside) the corporation with local, state and federal agencies related to the transportation of hazardous materials.
 -  Frequently handles information that is confidential in nature.
 -  Provides solutions to problems which may be complex in nature due to regulatory
    requirements.
 -  Works with minimal direct supervision.
-  Requires the use of independent action and decision making skills.


MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
[A]  5 years experience in hazardous materials transportation.

[B]  Familiarity with and knowledge of global surface, water and air shipment regulations.

[C]   Experience in working in a cross functional environment.

[D]  Customer service focus.


REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:
-  Good communications skills, including experience and comfort in public speaking and training situations.
-  Commitment to remain up to date on hazardous materials transportation regulations.
-  Ability to travel as necessary to lead hazardous materials training programs (up to 25%).
-  Ability to drive process improvement.
 

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL/DEGREE:
- BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related discipline highly preferred.
