The Veterinarian is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of veterinary care and client education and most productive veterinary medical team through training and mentoring of the paraprofessionals in the veterinary medical team. The Veterinarian operates an effective and productive veterinary medical team, advocates for Pets, educates clients on all aspects of Pet health, ensures a safe and effective hospital environment, and improves both the medical quality and business performance of the hospital. The Veterinarian provides preventative care, diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries of Pets.
Select, train and supervise the paraprofessional team to ensure quality medical care, exceptional client service and maximum productivity and to enable Team Members to grow and develop professionally within the Practice.
Develop an efficient, productive veterinary medical team that provides the highest quality care and service to Pets and clients. Follow the Cycle of Service and communicate with the other Team Members to maintain the flow of patients to maximize quality medical care and productivity.
Ensure the safety of Pets, clients and Team Members by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
Obtain relevant information and history from clients, and maintain proper and complete medical records.
Manage the profitability of the hospital to ensure consistent growth and improvement.
Create a positive professional relationship with PETsMART associates and customers.
Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventative care, Pet health needs, any diagnosis or treatment, hospital services and other related information. Coach paraprofessional team to provide such education.
Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care for the wellness needs of Pets and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of Pets. Effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plan to veterinary medical team and client.
Provide effective communication between Team Members, field leadership and Central Team Support.
Ensure all Practice policies, protocols and Quality Assurance guidelines and local, state and federal laws are followed, including proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to effectively communicate in the English language both in writing and orally

Ability to regularly stand, and to reach and feel with hands and arms
Ability to frequently walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and to lift or move up to 50 pounds
Ability to be confident around Pets (i.e. dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.)
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or equivalent degree
License in good standing with the state veterinary board
License or application for license with the Drug Enforcement Agency
