Job Description
MDI, a leader in technology services, is currently hiring for one of our
Client’s in the downtown Atlanta area. Our Client is a major producer of
news, entertainment, and programming for the basic cable industry around the
world. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a respected and well
known leader in the entertainment industry.
Our Client is currently in need of an Oracle Database Administrator to fulfill
a 12 Month contract opportunity in Atlanta, GA.
Position DescriptionThe Senior Database Administrator will have a high skill
level in Oracle database administration, implementing enterprise databases on
enterprise storage solutions. Must be able to manage large multi-gigabyte
databases and cluster solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Administer production, test, development and internal (support) databases.
· Engage in forward looking research and training activities aimed at
increasing efficiency of database services.
· Engage in capacity planning for the Database environments.
· Create materials and opportunities for mentoring less senior team members.
· Monitor database performance and tune database and applications as
necessary.
· Enforce, and where necessary, make recommendations to enhance, change
management principles and policies.
· Install, upgrade and patch database instances in all environments as
required.
· Work closely with system and network engineers during software installation,
upgrades and server stand-ups.
· Ensure availability of databases in accordance with service level
agreements.
· Correct problems in databases quickly and correctly.
· Support and install software in the production, test and development
environments.
· Provide assistance to developers in development and tuning of database
queries.
· Assist in design of reports in co-operation with customers/developers.
· Develop, document and maintain standards, procedures and processes.
· Help team to deliver deployment strategies and documentation.
Other Responsibilities/Requirements
· Carry a mobile phone/pager during non-business hours frequently.
· Engage and interact with user groups for Oracle and related technologies.
· Work outside regular office hours occasionally.
· Work from remote locations (remote offices, home) occasionally.
· Coordinate and communicate with Internet Operations team members, help desk
and others.
· Prepare status reports for the supervisor.
Qualifications (background, education, experience, and other
requirements)
· Bachelors degree in Computer science, MIS, Engineering or related fields, or
equivalent education and relevant experience plus six years of relevant
experience in database administration, systems administration or software
development.
· 5+ years experience in Oracle Database administration.
· 2+ years experience in any of the following: MYSQL, DB2, Informix, Sybase,
MS SQL server or Teradata administration.
· Experience in software development or supporting application developers with
database design and consulting.
· Ability to work with minimum supervision and to comprehend the full scope of
project and task requirements.
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required
· Ability to install, configure, and administer Oracle 10g and 11g on UNIX,
Linux and Windows server platforms.
· Ability to perform instance level and SQL, PL/SQL performance tuning.
· Ability to quickly diagnose database related problems and implement
appropriate corrections.
· Minimum 5 years of data modeling experience. Experience using data modeling
tools and comprehension of ER diagrams.
· Oracle networking: Fundamental understanding of networking including TCP,
connection pooling, SQL*Net and Java client concepts.
· Detailed knowledge and experience in backup and recovery, RMAN,
export/import, datapump, tools and techniques. Ability to perform all types of
data and instance recoveries under various scenarios.
· Knowledgeable on high availability principles and techniques; e.g., RAC,
Dataguard administration and configuration.
· Highly proficient in SQL and PL/SQL development of packages, procedures,
Java procedures, external procedures.
· Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux administration (e.g., scripting, security,
networking, directory structures).
· Understanding principles of RAID, NAS, SAN storage and virtualization
technologies and virtual machines.
· Ability to support a 24x7 mission-critical database environment.
· Ability to design, implement and support high availability architectures
utilizing RAC, Dataguard, Streams.
· Familiarity with networking protocols and hardware.
· Proficient in UNIX/Linux shell scripting and commands.
· Proficient in PERL or awk/sed, UNIX/Linux string manipulation tools.
